A recent report has confirmed that Sony PlayStation 4 has finally reached a new milestone. A fresh data from Sony Interactive Entertainment’s financial results for the second quarter of the fiscal year confirmed that Sony has shipped more than 102.8 million units as of September 30, 2019.
But still, the best-selling console of all time is the PlayStation 2. It seems that Sony is winning right now. That’s a lot of PlayStations, as we’re sure you know. Sony managed to sell 61.3 million units in the second quarter in terms of full game software revenues. But the company has now confirmed, that sales of PS4 hardware is expected to be lower this year, and Sony has actually lowered their estimate to 13.5 instead of 15 million units.
It makes sense to change the numbers with the PlayStation 5 on the way out. There’s a lot of life left in the PlayStation 4, of course, and plenty of great games left to play before we move on to the next console stage. Persona 5: Royal will come next year, and next week Death Stranding will also come.
Despite Sony announcing the release of the PlayStation 5 for the 2020 holiday season, holiday sales may not be great compared to last year. Rather, gift-givers may go for more PS4 games as they will be compatible with the new console. Death Stranding, The Last of Us 2 and Shenmue III are the next PS4 titles.
